The Psychology Behind Specific Words

What Are Self-Affirmations?

Self-Affirmations are the words you tell yourself that have to do with labeling who you are.

You use them all the time. Here are some positive examples (gives you energy) and negative examples (lowers your energy):

Positive: "I am great",  "I am awesome".

Negative: "I am a loser", "I am stupid".

 What does it mean if something gives you energy, or lowers your energy?

Well, if something gives you energy, it gives you life. You feel alive. You feel energized to take on the world (not literally, though for some of you, it may be literal). You have the drive to work on your goals, and do what it is you said you would do.

If something lowers your energy, then it has the exact opposite effect. 

What you say becomes a self-affirmation the moment you use the words "I am" in a sentence. What you tell yourself repeatedly is how you will view yourself. It is how you will unconsciously choose to live life.

 

You can always change how you speak to yourself at any time, so let's start now.
